Fundraising begins for Veteran's Memorial at Town Hall
The local VFW has given their Veteran's Memorial monument to Mullica Township for display at town hall. Peterson's Monuments in Egg Harbor City has very graciously agreed to move the monument from the old VFW Hall to the Municipal Building. Township Committee is designing a small Veteran's Park to be located in the front of the municipal building. Plans include installing pavers, two or three benches, and landscaping. Donations are currently being accepted to fund this project, estimated to cost $7,500. If you would like to make a donation, please make your check payable to "Mullica Township Community Events Trust", and mail to Township of Mullica, PO Box 317, Elwood, NJ 08217 Attn: Finance. A dedication service is planned when the project is completed.
GEHRHS CONTEST - NAME THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL
MASCOT & COLORS Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District is in the process of naming the school, selecting a mascot and the colors for the new high school. Anyone wishing to submit an essay of 250 words or less, a poem or a song which explains why your choice would be most appropriate for the new high school can must submit information to the GEHRHSC Office no later than December 1, 2008. A $100 savings bond honorarium for the name of the school and a $100 savings bond for the mascot and school colors donated by the Ralph Martin Foundation will be awarded to the person whose selection is chosen. Final decisions will be made in January 2009 by the Board of Education.

A Rabid Skunk was found in the vicinity of 2300 block of Columbia Road. (9/08) & a Rabid Racoon was collected on Wescoat Avenue, near Nesco Road on August 13th. There have been three confirmed cases of rabies in Mullica Township this year. Report all animal bites and any suspicion of rabid animals to the Atlantic County Division of Public Heath by calling 609-645-5971.

West Nile Virus: The state will be accepting birds for testing beginning April 15th, and will determine and end date as the season progresses. After this date, the County will continue to accept reports of dead or ill birds until October 31st.
Crows and Blue Jays are accepted for testing if ithey are not visibly decayed (not dead more than 24 hours) also if it is not infested with maggots, waterlogged, hit by a car or eaten by scavengers. Specimens are typically picked-up the same day as the call on a non-emergency basis. Residents are advised to place a bucket over the specimen to protect it from elements and insects. Also, storing the specimen on ice or in refrigeration until pick-up is acceptable, however, please be advised to wear plastic gloves while handling birds and place it in a watertight plastic bag. Specimens soaking in melted ice are not acceptable.
